Faculty Research Programmes Committee (FRPC)

Composition

Chairperson: A senior member of staff to whom the Dean has delegated substantial responsibility for research programmes.
Up to ten members of staff who are active researchers, at least half of whom shall have experience of successful PhD supervision, nominated by the Chairperson after consultation with the Dean of Faculty;
Faculty Ethics Champion;
Between two and four external members, nominated by the Chairperson;
Secretary: Graduate Research Administrator
All members must be approved by the Chairperson of Quality Assurance Committee.

Terms of reference

• To receive notification of registered students for research degrees in the faculty and approval of ethical issues, and to transfer students from MPhil/PhD to PhD.
• To monitor the progress of research degree students in the faculty.
• To ensure that appropriate ethical approval is secured for each research degree.
• To undertake any other task delegated to it by Research Programmes Sub-Group / Faculty Board
• To report to Research Programmes Sub-Group

Consider the recommendation of the interview panel and to ratify (or otherwise) the recommendation of the interview panel

1.To approve student registrations
2.To transfer students from MPhil/PhD to PhD.
3.To monitor the progress of research degree students in the faculty.
4.To ensure that appropriate ethical approval is secured for each research degree.
5.To determine whether the proposed supervisors are able to take on that role, with reference to supervisory experience, training received and supervision workloads
6.To recommend, if necessary, alternative supervision arrangements
7.To undertake any other task delegated to it by the Research Programmes Sub Committee.
8.To report to the Research Programmes Sub Committee
